Dia Trescientos Treinta y Ocho // Day Three Hundred & Thirty-Eight

03.12.2016 Saturday

The Summer thunderstorms were rolling in, quite literally this afternoon. I took this photo of a roll cloud just before it started to rain and the thunder and lightning had begun.

A roll cloud, often referred to as an Arcus cloud in meteorological terms, is a low, horizontal cloud formation. These types of clouds are formed by outflows of cold air (usually from the sea) are relitavely rare and mimic the act of a cloud ‘building’ as it rolls along creating more cloud formations. As a geographer, I love seeing things like this so unexpectedly.
