The are I grew up in has undergone some significant and exciting changes in the two and a half years I have been away. After three decades of campaigning and continuous set backs the Moreton Bay Railway has finally been complete. The track runs from my home suburb of Petrie, east towards the sea at Redcliffe. Although the train line is not yet open (due to open for use next month), the cycle way they have built alongside it is.
This morning my dad and I went for a ride on the path to the end of the line and back. It really is such a simple idea to build cycleways alongside railway lines but one that is often overlooked. This pathway is brilliant and provides traffic-free access to many different locations. It was also very well used by the public this morning despite the disturbing presence of a magpie or two.
